The Bends - by Cait Devall
The first stop of a tour can go a lot of different ways, but The Bends walked into a completely packed Tipitina’s on Thursday night and took control of the room from the start.
Coming off their run with Rainbow Kitten Surprise, they stepped into this headline show with confidence that felt natural and fully settled. Nothing about the set felt tentative. They moved through it like a band that already understands how their music is meant to land live.
The crowd showed up early and stayed locked in the entire night. People were pressed shoulder to shoulder, singing along, reacting to every build and every drop. There was a constant energy in the room that never fell off, and the band matched it the whole way through.
The setlist flowed smoothly, with each song building on the last. They kept the pace tight and avoided any dips, which made the entire performance feel continuous and intentional. Transitions were clean, and the momentum carried from the first song all the way through the final moments of the set.
Vocally, everything came through strong and controlled, even with the crowd matching them line for line. Instrumentally, the band stayed locked together, with each part adding to the overall weight of the performance without overpowering it. You could hear how much time they have spent playing together in the way everything landed so cleanly.
There were a few standout moments where the crowd completely took over, singing full sections back to the stage. Instead of pulling away from that, the band let it happen and built on it, which made those moments feel even bigger.
The lighting and stage presence supported the set without distracting from it. Everything worked together in a way that felt intentional and true to who they are as a band right now.
For the first night of a headline tour, this felt fully realized. The Bends are stepping into something bigger, and this show made it clear they are ready for it.
